MfJ Congratulates the Interim Government under Prof. Yunus
A New Era for Bangladesh with Professor Yunus at the Helm
On August 9, 2024, MfJ organized an event at the Bangladesh Centre on Danforth, Toronto, where members congratulated Professor Muhammad Yunus and his new government. Dr. Yunus was thanked and commended for assuming the leadership during this critical period. A large audience attended the event, which also paid tribute to the martyrs of the July people’s uprising in Bangladesh.

The meeting was chaired by journalist and writer Rezaul Karim Talukder. Notable speakers included prominent Toronto cultural figure Shahid Khandker Tuku, Dr. Khalid Hasan, Sheikh Shahadat Hossain, Dr. Hasnat Hussain (President of Voice for Global Bangladeshis), Gazi Salahuddin Mahmud, among others.
Speakers expressed hope that the new government would receive support from expatriates in rebuilding Bangladesh’s weakened institutions. They emphasized the importance of giving the government sufficient time to accomplish its goals, while also urging it to ensure a participatory and fair election process. The event concluded with prayers for the souls of the martyrs of the mass movement, followed by a brief cultural program.
